How to Sign Across Your Photograph (Cross-Signature Guidelines)
Many government recruitment commissions (such as State Public Service Commissions, High Courts, Police Bharti, and Teacher Recruitment) require candidates to upload a self-attested photograph where their handwritten signature crosses over the photograph.
Never Cover the Face
The cross-signature must be placed across the chest, shoulders, or lower shirt portion of the photograph. It must never obscure your eyes, nose, or mouth, or your application may be rejected.
Ballpoint Ink Slant
Natural signatures are signed with a slight upward or downward slant (between -5° and -15°). Our tool defaults to authentic ballpoint pen ink blending that mimics real physical ink on photographic paper.
File Size Compliance
Ensure the exported photo is saved in JPG format between 20 KB and 50 KB (for SSC) or under 100 KB (for UPSC/State PSC). Our built-in optimizer achieves this automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Everything you need to know about preparing cross-signed self-attested photos for Sarkari forms.
Q.What is a cross-signature on a photograph?
A cross-signature (also termed 'self-attested photograph' or 'photo with signature') means the candidate signs their handwritten signature across the photograph, typically across the lower half/chest area, proving that the photo is authentic and submitted by the genuine applicant.
Q.How does the tool remove the paper background of my signature?
When you upload a phone photo of your signature written on paper, our intelligent client-side canvas engine analyzes paper luminosity and converts all white, off-white, and shadow paper pixels into 100% transparent alpha, isolating only the handwritten ink strokes.
Q.Can I drag the signature anywhere on the photo?
Yes! Simply click or touch and drag the signature directly on the photo preview to place it wherever required. You can also adjust the slant angle (-45° to +45°) and scale slider.
Q.Are my photos uploaded to any external server?
No! All processing is executed 100% client-side inside your own web browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your photographs and signatures never leave your personal device.
Q.What is the recommended file size for SSC & UPSC forms?
For SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD), photos must be between 20 KB and 50 KB in JPG format. For UPSC, photos can be up to 300 KB. Our tool allows you to select 'Under 50KB' or 'Under 20KB' with live size calculation.
Q.Can I also add my candidate name and date of photo (DOP)?
Yes! Toggle the 'Add Candidate Name & Date Strip' option to render a clean white strip at the bottom containing your uppercase full name and photo date alongside the cross-signature.
